Winner: Kathryn Tan

Kathryn Tan was nominated by Regina Lua Ubana (breastfeeding mother):
“It was during my first few months as a BMSG Counsellor when Kathryn, an experienced Breastfeeding Counsellor and IBCLC, was assigned to mentor me. She was approachable, knowledgeable, and always gave advice that hit the mark. Even when I made multiple mistakes in my posts, she was patient and never made me feel belittled. In just a few months, her guidance has made me feel more confident and reassured in my role, and I am truly grateful for her support.”
Shortlisted Nominees:
- Heng Wen Xiu (Pictured Below)
- Goh Yi Zhen (Not Pictured)

Wen Xiu was nominated by a fellow BMSG counsellor:
Wen Xiu is a very knowledgeable and helpful mentor. As a new trainee counsellor, I often read Facebook posts and watch how senior counsellors respond to mothers. I was particularly impressed by how Wen Xiu replies—her responses are gentle, informative, and full of practical guidance. I even took down many of her points for my own learning.
When I was placed in her mentoring group, I felt so lucky to have her as my mentor. She always responds to our queries quickly, and her guidance has been invaluable in helping me grow as a counsellor. I have learned so much from her approach, and her mentorship has made a significant difference in my training.
Yi Zhen was nominated by Samantha Lee (fellow BMSG counsellor):
Stepping into my second motherhood, I thought I was prepared—but I quickly realized my knowledge wasn’t enough. Everything changed after my first in-person session with Yi Zhen. She not only taught me how to breastfeed on the go while baby-wearing but also gave me the confidence to do it—a true turning point.
Yi Zhen’s support went above and beyond. She provided personalized tips on choosing a carrier that fit my lifestyle and was always there to answer my urgent questions, whether it was about my baby crying or helping them sleep at night. Her kindness, and the introduction to BMSG by another counsellor, inspired me to see how a knowledgeable community can empower mothers and make the breastfeeding journey feel far less lonely. Thanks to her guidance, I’m now proud to join this incredible family as an aspiring BMSG counsellor myself.
