July 2017: Editor’s Note

Dear readers,

Welcome to the revamped BMSG newsletter! In this new format, we will be sharing with you, not just more tips and information about breastfeeding, but also we have added a new segment  for a mother’s sharing each month. We believe that having the right information, and having a sense of community, can really help a mother in her breastfeeding journey.

At the BMSG, we have had a a busy month, as the new Exco team has now taken over the reins and setting its direction to take.

Firstly, we have organised our annual Big Latch On event  as part of  the World Breastfeeding Week celebrations. It is a global, synchronized breastfeeding event, where mothers taking part, will nurse or pump at the same time. This is happening on Saturday, 5 August, at Hong Lim CC (next to Hong Lim Park), 9-11am. Details are still being worked out, but it will be a fun-filled family event, for all breastfeeding mums. We invite you all to come down, get to know other nursing mothers, find out more about BMSG’s events, and get counted in the Big Latch On!

Next, we have launched our new workshop format this month. Our July workshop (held on 22 July) was on Breastfeeding and Returning to Work, and we had our partnering certified babywearing consultants from Warabee  run a section on ergonomic baby wearing. In August, we look forward to the next  workshop on Birthing and Breastfeeding, where we will hear from doula and childbirth educator Hanani of Yaqyn to share more about how labour and natural birth.

Lastly, yet a another new initiative launching this month is our Mum 2 Mum meetingsThe first one is taking place on Sunday, 30 July, at our BMSG office. These monthly meetings are facilitated by our own BMSG trained counsellors. All mothers are welcome, whether new or experienced. I will be there for the first one, so hope to get to meet some of you there.

So many exciting things planned ahead. We hope you will join us for some of these events. Do visit our Facebook page to get more details on these events, and follow us there to be updated.

Breast on!

Warmly,

Elaine
